This year is a special one for the Airdrie Chamber of Commerce as they are celebrating 50 years.
The purpose of the Airdrie Chamber is to represent, promote and enhance the interests of Airdrie's regional business community.
Marilyne Aalhus, Executive Director of the Airdrie Chamber of Commerce believes 50 years is a testament to the longevity of the chamber.
"I just love thinking about what chambers do in every community, throughout this province and throughout the world. We're really excited that our chamber has hit this milestone."
According to Aalhus, the chamber has over 600 members.
"My favourite part of the job is working with amazing businesses in our community. I know that we have over 620 [businesses that are a part of the chamber] going strong. We just love to see those members come together and support one another."
When asked about why the chamber is so good at advocating and collaborating with businesses, Ami Ballman, President of the Airdrie Chamber of Commerce believes it comes down to the board and volunteers.
"We definitely couldn't do it without our volunteers and we're very grateful for that. But, we are passionate about making sure that we are promoting, representing and enhancing our business community."
Some of the longest-standing events within Airdrie are hosted by the chamber, which include the Home and Lifestyle Show for 45 years and their golf tournament which is also the longest-standing gold tournament in Airdrie.
With it being a big birthday for the Chamber, they have multiple events planned, one of them being this winter.
"In December, we're actually having a gala to celebrate our 50th. We're going to be having a special guest, Paul Brandt," stated Ballman.
Another event the chamber has coming up next month is its Business Awards, which is taking place on October 19.
According to Aalhus, their business awards are not a popularity contest. They're more of a really educated decision on what businesses are doing to form an amazing city.
